I love children and have lots of previous experience working with children of both genders and various ages. In high school, I volunteered weekends and summers to help elementary school children with reading and math at my local library and was also a part of the Big Brother Big Sister program, working with two young girls that had behavioral and social challenges. Similarly, I volunteered in a day-care working with developmentally challenged teens through structured play and craft activities. In college, I was a part of an organization called Fiver and worked with a little boy in the area providing social and educational support for him. Since graduating college (I graduated with high honors from Colgate University with a degree in neuroscience in 2009), I have volunteered most Sundays in my previous church's nursery that provided care for infants through toddlers while parents attended religious services. I have a lot Read more of babysitting experience that ranges from infants through young teens. I have babysat on an as needed basis for family members: I have 3 nephews and many younger cousins. In college, I babysat for professors' children and I have since babysat for coworkers and friends on an as needed basis as well. I am not the kind of babysitter that is interested in plopping kids in front of the television! I am a firm believer that children should be encouraged through creative outlets and play. Some of my favorite activities to do with children include coloring, reading, painting, singing, building things, playing various board games, going to the park, flying kites, hide-and-seek, dress-up, and tag. As an aside, I was an EMT during my late high school years. Although I am no longer certified, having a background in emergency care is certainly helpful when attending children!
