Hi there, welcome and thanks for checking out my profile! Please read thoroughly to see if we are a good fit for each other. I have always loved children and have been working with them in some way or another basically since I was thirteen- babysitting, camp counseling, tutoring, teaching swim lessons, and working in a preschool. I have an associate's degree in early childhood studies in progress, and intend to enroll in doula/midwifery training later this year. This is honestly a major calling and joy in my life, something I feel I am absolutely meant to do, and it just comes naturally to me. I also have a strong meditation practice that is integral and illuminating into my work. Some things are very important to me when I work/play with children- -Trusting children ---What this looks like in my practice is pausing and observing children in their play/work before Read more intervening. Listening deeply to the content of their messages and believing what they have to say -Saying YES --- Saying Yes means I hear them, support them in their learning, and want to see them grow. My general rule of thumb is, "If it's not life threatening, morally threatening, or extremely unhealthy to you, yourself, or property, just say YES" ---This doesn't mean I am loosey-goosey, I always intend to be strong and reliable in routines with little ones (they crave that!), and I do allow for flexibility within those routines/structures -Speak to children with respect and honesty ---Depends on ages and stages of development. When they ask hard questions about life and death, or maybe uncomfortable questions about bodies, I intend to give straightforward and age appropriate truths. I will probably check in with you if these things come up, so we can work through them together. -No "naughtiness" ---"Naughty behavior" is just attention seeking behavior. When "naughtiness" comes up, I pause and ask, "What's really going on, what does this child need? -All feelings are okay! ---Kids are emotional creatures. I do my best to be calm and regulated, so they can calm and regulate in the face of any big feelings. I am a mother at heart, and this work is so fulfilling and meaningful to me.
