When I was 13, I began watching children as young as 1-2 years with the supervision of a parent, splitting time between assisting in child care and helping around the house. I have done mother's helper jobs with children 0-2 years old. After about a year, I began to look after children frequently without a parent in the home. I then began to babysit for a number of families long-term, ranging from children ages 3-12. As an adult, I have served three years in an AmeriCorps program as a Youth Programs Coordinator and school mentor for kids ages 5-18.
