My interest in child care started when my father had my half-brother when I was eight. With the significant age difference, I quickly became the babysitter, caretaker, and role model. I took my role with pride, slowly becoming his friend's babysitter and a popular face painter for birthday parties. My interest in child care continued as I went to college; although I pursued a bachelor's in food systems, I still found time to take courses in youth education (specifically place-based). Through one of my classes, I got to work at a school for the first time as a volunteer for a 4th-grade classroom once a week; I fell in love with seeing the excited minds of young children and becoming a figure the children I worked with could rely on and feel comfortable coming to with anything they might need or feel. After graduating from the University of Vermont this Read more past summer, I recently moved to Portland and am working in my second childcare facility. I work full-time as a teaching assistant at The Ivy School. I work with 1st through 3rd grades in a class of 26 students. I have come to adore my school community, and I am excited to have the opportunity to connect and share any knowledge or skills I may have with more children in a non-school environment. I have also worked at a preschool where I cared for children from 6 months to 6 years old. I am excited to be able to share my interests with your children; I have always been interested in art somehow, whether that be knitting, sewing, painting, drawing, or anything of the like! I studied science and have a knowledge base in and care for our environment. I am interested in and have studied nutrition, which aligns with my biggest love, cooking! I am happy to cook and bake for you, your family, and of course, your children. Thank you for reading a little bit about me, and if it's a good fit, I hope to hear from you soon!
