Hello! My name is Kate, and I am a 28 year old, Early Childhood major, with a PA Teaching Certification in Early Childhood Education. I grew up outside of Philadelphia, but I currently live and teach a Pre-K Counts/Headstart class in Allentown. I have all of my up-to-date clearances, and renewed my Child and Adult CPR and First Aid in February 2016. I also have my own car for transportation (a reliable, new Kia Forte). I have taught in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Allentown - and am currently in my fifth full year of teaching. Each year, I have taught a Pre-K Counts/Headstart class, with 20+ at-risk students. Before that, I was a childcare provider in a daycare at the Magee Women's Hospital. I also spent about a year and a half as a full time nanny in a home with two children (8 and 3 years old). In this position, Read more I was a homeschooling tutor for the 8 year old, who has been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. All of these jobs have highlighted my abilities to adapt to situations as needed, be patient and flexible, and creative with lesson plans, motivation, and behavioral management. During college and before college, I have also had many other experiences, with children from under a year old through 15 years old. While in school, I had practicum and student teaching placements in The Children’s School at CMU, Pittsburgh Public School, and a Montessori School. I have worked as a camp counselor for several summers, was an art teacher, and have been employed by several private families as a tutor, babysitter, and nanny. I also spent my freshman year in college as an Americorps volunteer for the program Jumpstart, where I worked with Pre-K children and as the Parent Coordinator.  Outside of my work with children, I love being around my friends, and am always very active with dinners, co-ed sports, art projects, gardening and growing veggies. I am very optimistic and positive, and am always open to trying new things and go to new places.
