For the past two years I have been working full-time as a high school English teacher in Maryland. During the 2013-2014 school year, I taught 11th and 9th grade students. In the most recent school year, I taught all 9th grade students. Prior to teaching in Maryland, I was a nanny. During the summer of 2013 I worked for a family in Sewickley. They had two children, an eight year old girl and a five year old boy. I was with them all summer, Monday through Friday, from 12:00 noon until about 6:30pm. Before I was a nanny, I was a substitute teacher at Pittsburgh's Creative and Performing Arts School in downtown Pittsburgh, where I worked with children in grades 6-12. Previous to my time as a substitute teacher, I worked at MUSA summer camp in Homestead for three consecutive summers. MUSA summer camp hosted children between the ages of Read more 3-11. Throughout my time at MUSA I worked with almost all of the age groups, but I was primarily with the seven and eight year olds. In addition to these jobs, I volunteer annually at a local church in Homestead to help with their Bible school program. I help out there as a "crew leader" and help teach and supervise children from ages 5 to 11. This is not a paid position, but it is a lot of fun and very rewarding. Since my teenage years I have always enjoyed working with children. I used to babysit my neighbor and other children within my school district. I have a passion for working with, and especially teaching, children. It's such a great feeling to see them learn and discover new things. I do not have any children of my own, but I hope to be a parent one day. Until then, I plan to continue teaching and working in the field of childcare.
