Hi! My name is Salwa and I am currently graduate of San Francisco State University with a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. I have one younger sister and many younger cousins, so I've had experience with kids my entire life. I started babysitting for a family friend's daughters when I was 16 years old. The girls were 7 and 8 and babysit for them for about 3 years. Since then, I've had regular babysitting jobs with many families, taking care of kids of almost all ages. A year ago I worked with an organization called Jumpstart. I participated as an AmeriCorps member in an award-winning network of volunteers who provide individualized attention and positive adult-child relationships to prepare children attending preschool in low-income neighborhoods for school success. I implemented early childhood curriculum, supported family involvement, promoted children’s language and literacy skills through ongoing relationships with 18 preschool partner children, Read more and increased adult support in the learning environment. I received intensive training and professional development in early childhood theory and practice, language and literacy development, leadership skills, and communication with families. I also babysat for a family in San Francisco for 6 months. I started babysitting their son when he was 4 months, and I have gained a lot of experience in taking care of infants. I love working with kids because I've found I can always learn something new from them, and I believe it's important that every interaction they have with adults, no matter how small or brief, be a positive and helpful one to support their growth and development.
