I am a newly graduated Sociology major who has found herself surrounded by kids all of the time. I first figured out the importance of child development when I was 19 years old when I volunteered for a year through City Year Americorps. I tutored children in underprivileged elementary schools Monday through Thursday for the school day and then organized and executed an after school program for the same elementary school on those days. I found that I was able to find children's strengths and use them to bring out the best in each child. I enjoyed it so much I decided to major in elementary education, where I did a month long internship at Friends School working with preschoolers. This semester of college I learned a lot about childhood development and continued to expand that knowledge on my own even after deciding that becoming a teacher was not right Read more for me (emotional rather than intellectual development is more important to me and I prefer working one on one with children rather than a classroom setting). Since then I have steadily babysat three wonderful children (age 0- 7) who I see every few weeks. I have been a nanny for a family who's child is now 8 months old and I have gotten very close with her, but is soon to be in the care of a family member. I like to argue that childhood is the most important part of human development and that the best thing adults can do is to lead by example, be as supportive and understanding as possible and to let kids be themselves, because everyone is equally great! Every family is different and I respect and appreciate each for their methods missions and values. I am easy going, humble and open to instruction. I look forward to getting to know and care for your children. I prefer full time employment where I can get close to a child/children and the family.
