I have worked a summer in recreation supervising, and organizing activities for children. This required supervision of a varying number of children each day. More recently i have worked for 3 years as a teahing assistant in an intensive Applied Behavior Analysis program for school age children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Responsible for the Supervision of, and advocation forchildren with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Autism provides a variety of limitations based on the individual. As a teaching assistant it was my responsibility to know each student, their specific limitations, and work with them to help gain independence in those areas. These limitations include needing assistance in any facet of their day, be it eating, toileting, or communicating their needs. I mostly worked with children ages 6-10. I was responsible for 1 to 1 instruction, food preparation, data entry, orginization of materials and curriculum,as well as attending trainings, staff development, and sharing Read more input during daily meetings. The goal was to teach a student specific curriculum in a school setting, although the varying limitations from student to student provided many challenges. I was chosen as a specific staff to be involved in deescalation and physical intervention for behaviors of more challenging students. These behaviors included but were not limited to the destruction of environment, self injury, and aggression towards others. This required an empathetic and patient demeanor, along with the ability to consistently exercise rules and boundaries. A sense of strictness was important while also understanding the student's needs and limitations.
