Kids keep grown people active and open-minded while challenging us to be patient. In that way kids are excellent teachers. As a college student at Louisiana's Xavier University in New Orleans, thanks to the recommendation of an instructor I gained work as a mentor to an elementary school student named Tom for one year before he moved back his home in the Hebei Province of China. My duties included regularly driving him to and from school, daily library visits along with tutoring, food runs, sporting events, circus trips, and so forth. I keep in touch with Tom who turned 18 years old earlier this year. I worked as a doula for my sister during her pregnancy and since then have gained five years of experience as a substitute teacher in elementary and middle schools as well as at high schools, in both SPED and adverse behavioral programs in addition to Read more traditional school programs. My skills include but not limited to culinary and liberal arts. I appreciate sports as well having been a student-athlete as a teen. I sketch, write, play guitar, cook and make juices daily with an electronic juicer. I keep a tidy environment as is needed and am CPR-certified by the National CPR Foundation.
