Valerie was hired with enthusiasm to watch our elementary age boy afterschool for a few hours each day. Our child enjoyed being with her and she was efficient and easy to work with. Then, without any prior notice or discussion, she sent a text (on a Sunday) indicating she was leaving us at the end of the week to join another family which would offer her more money and hours. When I discussed my surprise at her actions, she said she was afraid to discuss the matter with me. We discussed how her decision left us in a horrible bind and without any ample time to find someone else: both my husband and I work full time and I am attending two graduate school classes each week. I told her I could not release her without time to find another Nanny and that six days was not nearly enough time to do so. She agreed to stay until I could find another sitter. She then told me two days later that she could not work past the end of the week because she now felt "uncomfortable" because of the situation.
