Hi! I’m Kaa’liyah, Kay for short (and it’s often easier for the kiddos)! I’m a Maryland native and have been a Texas resident for a year now. With the exception of one year as a medical assistant, all of my professional work has been with children. I’ve worked in early learning centers/daycares, the school setting, inpatient and outpatient applied behavior analysis clinics, and even a swim school! While I always find a way to have fun at work, due to being in upper level positions, I often find myself missing out in the opportunity to be involved with just letting kids be kids - exploring their environment, having fun, and learning through play. I have been working with children with special needs since 2014 and specifically in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) since 2017. I absolutely fell in love with this population of kiddos and all that they Read more are able to overcome. My positions as a behavioral therapist were by far the most rewarding, though the most challenging. Being able to help change a family’s life so that they can do things that most families take for granted, like grocery shopping or going out to eat at a restaurant, is a feeling that is hard to put into words but one I’ll never forget. I am also a trained doula, not actively practicing, specializing in prenatal and newborn care. I know a lot of people stray away from the newborn stage as it seems scary or difficult, but I absolutely fall in love with this stage every time I encounter a new baby. Watching them grow, learn, and explore in the purest of forms is the natural dopamine boost I need!
