My name is Christiana Romero. I am 19 years old and currently a student at Our Lady of the Lake University. My major is communication disorders. In high school, I did several volunteer hours at an autistic school for children. I described myself as a "flexible caregiver" because that was the first time I stepped out of my comfort zone with being around children. It was a great experience for me. Ever since then, I have been able to be flexible with any challenge that has come with a child take care of. I have a 7-year-old cousin with autism and have accompanied him his whole life, so I can say that it is pretty exciting watching and being around a young boy as he grows up. In my freshman year of college, I did volunteer hours at CAMP for PNO. My duties were to play, interact, and learn with Read more the children there from 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. That was also a great learning experience for me because each child there had some sort of disability, so once again I was able to be flexible and step out of my comfort zone for to assure the child was happy and comfortable around me. Other than these accomplishments, I have babysat here and there for family friends and neighbors and my duties usually satisfy the children as well as the parents.
