I am the oldest of four children, which means my babysitting days began the day a second baby joined my family's household. That does not make me the best by any means, because I know we all deal with our siblings a little differently than other people's children, but it was my start. In high school I started working as a caregiver for a young woman consumed by autism. We spent every weekday together in the summers, and even the occasional weekend while her family worked and studied. Recently, her and I spent an entire week, 24/7, home alone while her parents left town. Due to my move to Provo I had to give up that "job". Some of the best training I received ironically happened on my mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Samara, Russia. For a little over 18 months I had the Read more opportunity to work with youth, families, and other young adults. From stories they told me and things that i witnessed first hand I learned vital traits that make and break families. There's no way to put into this page the lessons I learned, but I cannot think of a training in my life more stretching than that.
