Kaila worked as our nanny from the first month we brought our children, then 7 and 9, home from Ethiopia. Based on her family's experience with adoption, she was aware of the effects of past trauma, not worried about the fact that they didn't speak English and had never been to school, and very open to our family's belief and parenting systems. The three of us worked together to support the kids and each other through very difficult times. She graced our family with understanding, patience, and contagious smiles. Kaila took our children to their first movie, listened to their devastating past stories, dealt with ongoing oppositional behavior, and constantly came up with fun things for them to do. Friday afternoons and evenings were Kaila time - she and the kids did something fun together while we had a much needed out of the house date night. She volunteered in their classrooms, took them to soccer, gymnastics, doc appts, counseling appts - she was and is, part of our family. We recently moved from Utah to Florida and are bereft without her. I could not have dreamed up a better caretaker for our kids, or a better parenting partner for us, which is what she truly became. She is honest, trustworthy, loyal, and loving. I will happily answer questions or serve as a reference. We completely support Kaila as she finishes college and explores grad school, and look forward to watching her improve the world for others in many different ways. You cannot go wrong entrusting your child or children to Kaila.
