Meet Jessica

I am a 22 year old Masters student at the George Washington University currently living in Alexandria with my husband and our bulldog puppy. I am balancing classes and a part time job working for the university but my husband is in the military and is gone a lot of the time so I am looking to fill some empty hours or days with a job that is not only engaging and entertaining, but will provide a little extra money, so babysitting is the perfect choice. While I primarily work with adults in a psychology and work setting, my mother is a Special Education teacher at a nonprofit special needs pre-k in New York and I have volunteered at the school, as well as worked as a substitute teacher's assistant, over the past 5 years. I have worked with children ages 3-5 in a structures preschool setting, as well as Read more worked as a summer camp counselor for children ages 6-9 who had a variety of mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. While I recognize that most people do not necessarily need someone experienced in the world of disability, I think these experiences have left me capable of handling most childhood challenges calmly and comfortably and have made me more flexible when it comes to seeing kids as individuals with their own personalities, strengths, difficulties, and interests. More than that, I feel as though I have gained an appreciation for bringing education into games and play time and have a whole host of arts and crafts, science experiments, and reading/numbers tricks up my sleeve. Aside from my professional experience, I have 16 younger cousins and have gained a lot of babysitting experience from them over the years and am very comfortable caring for children of any age, infants included. I love kids and I miss spending time working with them so I would be more than happy to be able to turn it into a way to help not only myself financially, but parents in need of a night off or short notice childcare.
