Hello! I am a 29 year old Special Education Teacher turned Stay-at-Home mom (as of June 2023). I taught for 6 years to students with moderate to profound disabilities. My classes contained up to 10 students with a wide variety of disabilities, such as Down Syndrome, Cerebal Palsy, Autism, and Intellectual Disability. In addition, the majority of my career was at schools or programs for students with the most complex and high support needs, meaning I was introduced and became experienced with very rare disorders, such as Retts, Lesch Nyhan Syndrome, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, Lissencephaly, Cortical Visual Impairment, and others. Due to the rare nature of these disabilities, I became very familiar with medical devices and procedures, such as g-tubes, nebulizers, trachs, feeding pumps and tubes, wheelchairs, standers, trams, and walkers. I also became very comfortable with assisting and teaching adaptive daily living care needs, especially toileting or changing diapers and Read more feeding students by mouth. In addition to my experience, I have a masters degree in Special Education, Adapted Curriculum (Severe Disabilities) and I’m fully licensed (teacher) in the state of Virginia. I love working and engaging with students with differing abilities. I only quit teaching in order to be with my own child (19 months old) more often. I hope I can be of service to a population who is usually very underserved of high quality care with respect and dignity. And provide their family with the support and relief they desperately need.
