Hi! My name is Misha! I am a 19 year-old, Freshman student at George Mason University. This past year, I took a gap year and served in an Elementary school where I was a near peer mentor and tutor to kids ages 3-11. I worked in a first grade classroom and truly loved interacting with students and children. Before my gap year, I have also tutored children in an academic program called Kumon and have been a camp counselor in Summer Camps. I have been in the NOVA area since 2011, my family moved here from Philadelphia(we are HUGE Eagles fans!) and have stayed in Burke ever since. I went to school in White Oaks Elementary and then went on to Lake Braddock Secondary School(Go Bruins!). I will be a freshman at George Mason University this fall, with the plans of majoring in Government and International Politics. This past year Read more I served in a DCPS school through an Americorps program called CityYear. With the experiences I had created through interacting with younger children in a school environment, I was able to be a close near-peer mentor and tutor to students at the school. Each student and child truly taught me more than any class or teacher has. My school was located in the "inner-city" of D.C. where multiple students had undergone trauma and were in struggling lower-class families. With that in mind, I have had experiences of talking and reporting instances to CPS and working with social workers. The reason I am on Sittercity is because my time with my students were obviously cut short, due to the pandemic, but my passion to engage with children is still with me. I have taught first grade students in a math program called "Do The Math" and "Eureka" and I have also taught English through a phonetic program called "Heggerty" and a letter learning program, "Fundations". In addition to that, I have been a tutor at Kumon teaching/tutoring kids ages 3-11 with basic arithmetic and phonetic pronunciation. I have also been a camp counselor for kids ages 3-11, I would plan out math learning events, have fun summertime projects(slime was a messy one, but I did make that with the kids!), and play games with them(for example: soccer, basketball, or kickball). I am First Aid CPR and AED certified(got certified in November 2019 and the certification expires November 2020).
