I've been babysitting since I was thirteen, and have always loved it. I got my degree in Secondary English Education from the University of Virginia, but decided that teaching wasn't for me due to a lot of the institutional press put on teachers beyond spending time with kids and helping them learn and grow. However, I love working with kids, and so chose to work in several afterschool programs, and as a first grade teaching assistant at a local elementary school instead. I've done this in addition to working with private families for date nights and the like. I also have gained experience caring for and supporting children with special needs over the past year as a teaching assistant in a special education prekindergarten classroom, mostly students on the Autism spectrum. Furthermore, I've spent a lot of time caring for my niece who is 5 and a half, developmentally delayed, Read more and on the spectrum herself. I genuinely love to play with kids, do arts and crafts projects, and hang out outside. My favorite things to do myself are to read, sing, walk, spend time in nature, and play soccer--though of course I love to do all of these things with kids as well!
