Hi! My name is Mary Elizabeth. I am from Newport News, Virginia. I grew up in a large family, spent a lot of time around the younger kids in the family, and helped to take care of them. As I got older, I had opportunities to babysit for more family and friends, and realized how much I like working with kids and families! My favored hobbies include reading, music, and ice skating when I can. I hope to share some of my interests with children, and to learn about the interests of others. A special topic that really peaks my interest is advocating literacy with children and families. I love to read and look forward to having opportunities to encourage children to appreciate reading, writing, and learning both in and outside the classroom. I have had many great babysitting and nannying opportunities in the past and loved my work with Read more each of them! First I have had a great opportunity to work as a nanny for a child with behavioral challenges, doing activities and helping her to learn daily life skills. I also had an amazing opportunity to do 200 hours of my practicum field experience in the toddler classroom of a local child care center. I supervised children, planned activities and lessons, and worked with the Reggio Emilia philosophy. I have been a nanny for several families, doing before-school care as well as daily child care and basic housekeeping duties for a range of ages. I greatly look forward to the future, gaining more experience, and working with children and families. I can’t wait to see what I can do to have a positive impact on children and their families in the future!
