Hi! I’m Kara :) I graduated from Virginia Tech in the summer of 2016. I majored in Human Development with a special interest in children with special needs. I have been a personal care attendant since I was 18 years old helping families care for their children with special needs. During the summer months at college, I cared for a 15-year-old girl with Angelman Syndrome about 50 hours a week. She relied on me for everything including dressing, bathing, using the bathroom, eating, etc. While I was in school, I worked as a personal care attendant for a 2-year-old with a brain injury, and I worked as a substitute teacher at Rainbow Riders preschool. I completed two internships with children through Virginia Tech: a student intern at Rainbow Riders and an early interventionist for children ages 0-3 with developmental disabilities through New River Valley Community Services.
