I worked with the VMFA after school art club, helping one of the art teachers with watching over and cleaning up after a group of 15 kids between the ages of 5 and 8. I really enjoyed this job because it helped me get to know a big group of kids and start to pick up on ways I could quickly assist the teacher intuitively. I got to know how to juggle many different responsibilities and many different kids while still taking care of the main task at hand. In addition, I worked at a Quaker Summer Camp where I helped a small group of kids, ages 5 to 11, have fun in the outdoors and indoors. I discovered different ways of keeping them busy while still being in tune with each of their needs at once. This secondary childcare setting adds to my level of professionalism in this industry Read more because I learned from childcare professionals. Thirdly, I worked at a private middle school as a Teacher's Assistant facilitating learning during Covid-19 protocols. I would help project the designated teacher into the classroom, but additionally talk with students one on one about their day, to help with classwork, or just about how they were feeling generally. I also believe I have the personality type that helps bring out a child’s excited and creative energy. I’ve always found crafts to be enjoyable and have numerous ideas for keeping kids busy in a safe manner. I also know the importance of trust in childcare and getting to know the kids intimately in order to best take care of their needs. I want to ensure that I am a friend to them in addition to someone that they feel is taking care of them. Thank you for reading.
