Hello families! My name is Tamara Alsaied, and I am a 19-year-old freshman at the University of Washington studying Environmental Studies. I plan on becoming a lawyer in the near future. My interests include music (I sing!), reading, theater (I have been in theater since I was 8 years old), movies, who dunnit board games, dance, cooking, and making coffee or tea for my loved ones. In my free time, I enjoy watching coming-of-age comedy and horror movies, playing with my five cats (I LOVE cats and all animals), going out to museums, writing music, or playing a murder mystery board game with my mom! Over the last few years, I have engaged with my community substantially. In high school, I was the founder and lead of Diversify our Narrative PUSD. For two years, I led a 100-member organization that worked with students, parents, and faculty to create an anti-racist, Read more equitable learning environment. I worked alongside the Director of Learning Services to pilot two new courses last year, which were Ethnic Literature and Ethnic Studies. Other leadership positions I held include being Section Leader of the Sopranos in my school's Classical Ensemble, serving as Concert Coordinator for my choir, being Dance Captain of my school's performance of "West Side Story," and being a Sundevil Ambassador—where I put on skits for elementary school students to teach them important lessons, such as integrity, honesty, kindness, etc. For three years, I was a Peer Counselor, working with my high school's counseling services to provide mental health resources for everyone on campus. Currently, I am a member of the Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity at UW and a stationary volunteer at the White Center Food Bank. Growing up as a minority with immigrant parents, I am incredibly passionate about ensuring each child knows their worth and feels supported in exploring their inquiries and passions. I love helping children learn and grow, whether that means helping with homework, working on a coloring book together, potting plants, or seeing a movie. I am down for whatever will help benefit the child. I will ALWAYS work with you—the parent—to ensure that you feel safe in trusting me with your child. I was raised in a family-oriented household and greatly respected my parents. As such, I will respect you and your wishes like my parents.
