Hi, I’m Katelyn (although my name is legally Lauren). I graduated from the University of Washington in 2013 having majored in Political Science. On to childcare: I will start by saying that I love being a nanny. I will be honestly happy chasing your kids around or helping with homework. I’m good at my job because I genuinely care, I’m calm in difficult situations, I’m flexible and available to help you, and I’m broadly experienced. I was a Mentor with Kinetic Potential Scholars from March to September 2015 (most of one school year). What is a Mentor, you ask? I was the one person who spent hands on time with kids who are in the program because they are in an at-risk environment. I helped tutors, spent one on time with kids, and generally supervised them, for example at the library. I worked with four kids aged five, seven, nine, Read more and fourteen. All of them were part of this program but working on different tracks because of their ages and abilities. Four kids with totally different needs made me very flexible with kids. I don’t become overwhelmed easily. I started nannying in June 2015. My first job was with two girls who started at ages one and three. It was fun and somewhat unusual experience because it was my job to keep the girls out of the house on adventures the entire time. This largely entailed more hours at the park, the zoo, and the library than I can count. This was good training to be with active kids and become a versatile caregiver. I am ready for any weather, any environment, and any activity. This job overlapped with my current job by eight months. I worked both until the older girl started preschool. I started my ongoing job in September 2015 with a nine-month-old baby girl. We play and learn in her house, outside, and in places like community centers. In my time with her I’ve helped her learn to crawl, walk, and start to speak and sign, amongst other things. We practice movement, draw, and she’s becoming more comfortable with other children. I do child-related tasks such as washing her dishes. I also read the family’s baby books and sometimes research specific issues that are coming up so I’m prepared to help her through developmental tough spots. I’m moving on because this child is joining a nanny share. A note on preferences: On the increased rate for each additional child, only apply it above two children. I can promise you excellent references upon request.
