My name is Courtney L. I have over 15 years of experience providing care to children ranging from birth through 12 years of age, in addition to currently raising two children of my own. I am a new resident of Washington, having just moved from Maine. I am an energetic, creative, curious person who loves the outdoors, singing, rock climbing, painting and cooking. While my primary education is in culinary arts, I have always had a strong love of caring for children. This drew me to my first mothers helper job when I was 11. The child’s mind & spirit are fascinating and should be filled with love, laughter, creativity, patience, understand & wonder. Is a privilege to me to observe and guide children through these tender years. I love to involve children in the art of cooking. Im happy to tailor food preparation to include the children with the aim of practical skill building (where appropriate). My experience with food and food safety has also given me a strong education in working with food allergies and symptoms of when a child may be experiencing an allergic reaction. I enjoy engaging with children through age appropriate arts and craft projects, nature observation, practicing cooking skills, neighborhood nature scavenger hunts, practical life skill building, singing, games and reading. I have experience providing one time babysitting services, occasional date night babysitting, full time nanny with meal preparation services and overnight on-call care for a medical professional. I have provided care to newborns, toddlers and children through the age of 12. I have a wide breath of knowledge around various parenting styles (gentle, attachment, free range, etc) and educational philosophies (Waldorf, Montessori, Amelia Reggio). I am educated on the best handling practices for breastmilk and formula, paced bottle feeding, baby wearing, safe sleep practices, introductions to solid foods, cloth diapering and the National Highway Institutes guidelines on child carseat usage. While I agree there is joy to be found in screen time, I prefer to keep screen use limited by both myself and the children while providing care. I have a deep love of the outdoors and prefer to get outside everyday, no matter the weather.
