*Updated August 2020* Hello! My name is Amber and I am a licensed teacher who has been both a substitute teacher in several districts around the Portland area and a contract teacher with the Parkrose School District! I most recently taught a ⅔ blend classroom and fell in love with teaching a blend! It gave me endless opportunities to reach students at their personal level of ability on their individual path of learning. I also loved substituting in several districts including Parkrose, Tigard Tualatin, David Douglas, West-Linn Wilsonville, Canby, Newberg, and a few charter schools. There are so many positives of contract teaching AND substitute teaching in elementary. Before we knew the word covid, I had already made the decision to step away from contract teaching after this year and go back to substitute teaching (primarily in my same parkrose school) because we want to start a family of our Read more own and in this season of life, it was/is best for me to step back and substitute. Now that all schools will be distant learning, I’d like to assist families personally rather than sub! I have my Masters in Teaching through George Fox and a Bachelors in Education from Oregon State. I have a long history of nannying, tutoring, and working as an instructional assistant. From 2007-2011, I worked as a Montessori preschool teacher in Wilsonville. While going to graduate school, I worked as a teaching assistant at Stafford Primary in West Linn. I have a passion for teaching reading, it’s just the best! I have the most knowledge in Pre-K to 3rd, but am very comfortable with 4th and 5th as well. If you have middle school kids, I could do it but would want to brush up on academic expectations! Ha. Each summer I love jumping back into tutoring and/or nannying! This summer has been especially important to me to help families due to the weird Spring we all experienced. I love pets, being outdoors, and very family oriented. I love making lifelong connections with students and families, relationships with students are so important to me. It’s natural for me to see student’s interest and pull it into the learning environment to create more investment in learning and more fun! For example, if your child felt unmotivated or was bored in learning sight words, and I noticed they love hot wheels, I would come up with a sight word game involving their hot wheels! I also enjoy personalizing student’s needs as we all have our own journey of learning!
