I have some formal childcare experience at the West Suburban YMCA; however, I grew up with a brother who had Autism. I know not everyone on the spectrum responds to certain stimulation the same way, but I have basic sensory and tactile knowledge. There wasn’t much down time for me growing up, so I love being around people, but I enjoy helping even more. I understand my side, but I also kind of understand how frustrating it can be to have Autism. My brother wasn’t a very emotionally attached person, but on several occasions, he would just come to me and tell me how he didn’t understand things (mostly social queues) and how he always felt misplaced. I want to be able to help and support in any way that I can, even for an hour or two for some time for the parents to recharge.
