Hi! My name is Julia and I am 18 years old. I come from Brazil but have been living in the States for almost three years now. I speak Portuguese as well as Spanish, and am learning Italian as well as French right now. I am a freshman at UWM and currently living in one of their residence halls. I won’t say I have years and years of “professional” experience caring for children, but growing up in a family where a kid or two would be born every single year, I can say I’ve had lots of real life experiences looking after children of all ages, even while I was still a child myself. I was an only child for a while until my first baby sister was born when I was 8. I’d say that’s when I first started learning how to care for another human being from helping Read more change her diapers, feed and bathe her, to waking up in the middle of the night to make sure she was ok. For the decade that followed I have been looking out for my sister, along with all the other babies in my family, whenever someone needed it. From what I remember I have always loved kids, not just because they’re cute and funny and energetic, but also because of their genuineness and uniqueness, they always remind me of how I use to be as a kid and how different each one of us is, especially as we go from being toddlers to children and our true personalities start to shine through, I just think that is such a beautiful thing to witness. I believe every child needs to be surrounded by people who are interested in who they truly are, in their development and their hobbies, and help them navigate the world around them.
