I have nearly 30 years experience starting as a preteen babysitter, then a full-time nanny, to being a head teacher at a daycare center. I've cared for children of all ages and backgrounds. I have been taught CPR and first aid for adults, children and infants. I am a very experienced swimmer and know swim safety. Throughout my years of care-giving, I also have been a caregiver to disabled and cancer persons. I've been the caregiver during a heart attack, seizure, and other urgent medical issues. Though those horrible hours may not be on my list of favorite times during care-giving; I would never give up that I was there to hold their hand, give a word of confidence that all will be okay, and a hug when that was what they really needed, in other words, I'm glad I was the hand they held. I find that everything is an opportunity to teach; cooking teaches culinary art, but also math, coordination and patience. Art teaches creativity as well as conceptualization, psychology and acceptance; cleaning teaches hygiene and responsibility, consideration and time-management. I know there are many who approach childcare as a job; to me it is a career that touches lives. I don't welcome the TV as a co-caregiver, ignore the dirty dishes from the day to build, or leave other unnecessary stresses. I am an artist. I also developed a summer art camp for school-aged learn non-traditional art mediums. I received a national honor for interactive daycare room design. I took recorder and piano lessons. I love all types of music. I was involved in drama for years both on stage and back stage. I love theater and opera. In short, I enjoy these subjects and am happy to expose them to your child. I love nature walks, exploring, and being invited to worlds of make-believe that you can only get to when a child trusts and loves you enough to invite you.
