When I was in my sophomore year of high school, I was given the opportunity to spend an hour of my day helping a special needs student with downs syndrome in her culinary class. I fell in love with helping her and we grew a friendship that is truly amazing. The following year, my junior year of high school, I spent the entire year volunteering an hour of my time everyday to helping the students in special education at my school. I loved it. The summer after my junior year I was offered a job caring for a family friend's daughter. She was 23, couldn't speak, couldn't walk, and needed help with just about everything. I loved it. I took care of her every other weekend from that summer on through the end of my senior year. I've spent a lot of time taking care of family members kids, friend's Read more kids, and my own siblings. I have five brothers. Four of them are younger than me at ages eight, ten, 14, and 15. I've had so much fun taking them out for the day and spending time for them. I've participated a lot in helping them grow up and disciplining when it's needed. When it comes to discipline I know from personal experience that yelling leads to dead ends and spanking isn't my thing. I've found that sitting down and discussing exactly what was wrong, why it was wrong, and removing whatever it is that is causing the issue is the most efficient method of discipline.
