I am dependable and very dedicated to my work when it comes to babysitting/nannying. I grew up watching my six year old cousin who was born deaf and I learned sign language to help communicate. I was a gymnastics coach for toddlers and for the advanced elementary aged students. From there I began to nanny for one of my gymnastic students and her brother. Responsibilities for that included: outdoor activities, making them dinner, reading, and doing homework. At the age of sixteen, my little brother was born and at times was left to look after him. A result of that is that I am very experienced with infants and toddlers. Due to a delay on my brother's speech, my mother and I worked together to teach my brother sign language. By us teaching him basic sign language, we were able to communicate during the time he couldn't speak. I assisted Read more him on his lessons to work on his words that were provided by his speech teacher. In addition to my other past nanny and babysitting jobs, I was an Autism Technician for Mercy Hospital. That included going to my patients house, working with them to make a set schedule for that session based off their previous sessions notes. Some of the things included in that schedule would be: folding laundry, loading or unloading the dishwasher, sensory activities, working on social skills, recognizing and identifying expected/unexpected, etc. After that session I would have to fill out a chart noting how they did in each category. If the patient did well that session, I would reward them with a sticker. Once the patient has reached nine stickers, they would get a "free session" the next time, meaning that we did whatever they wanted for that entire session. This method has influenced on how I teach, positive reinforcement is very important when working with others. I would then email the team leader that I had completed that session. Before leaving I would also touch base with patient's families in regard to what needs to be worked on and what they did well. In addition to my experience with children, I was also a camp counselor and gymnastics coach at Bela Karolyi’s Olympic Training Site. Based on my wide variety of experience from teaching to providing care in many different circumstances, my life has consistently trained me for a job like this. I know I'll be the right person for this job.
