My name is Katie Costanzo and I am 24 years old. I have a bachelors degree in sociology and psychology. I have a lot of experience caring for and babysitting children. I started babysitting in high school for my 5 cousins ages 1-6 and did that through high school and when I would come home from college. After college I babysat for two children, 8 months old and 4 years old on and off for 2 years. While babysitting I have driven kids to their different activities, cooked their meals, helped with homework, taken them on outings, given medication, and more! I have coached softball and worked at camps with children aged 8-14. Since college I have worked as a community organizer and in the mental health field. I moved to Hilo Hawaii in 2017 to work for Pacific Quest as a horticulture therapy guide, where I worked with young Read more adults ages 18-25 that have mental illness, trauma and substance abuse. I really loved working in a therapeutic environment where I was really connected to the students and helping them get better every day. At PQ I got a lot of professional experience with safety and supervision, leading group therapy, nonviolent communication, leadership and so much more. I had a lot of training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy as well, which is a mix of behaviorism and mindfulness. I have seen what mindfulness can do for people and especially people who are struggling. I would love to integrate mindfulness in any care I give to children. I love children and am currently trying to save up money to go back to school to become a midwife. As a part of that goal I am in training to be a doula, which is a birthing/mothers assistant. The energy, fun, curiosity and play is what I love about being around children and being able to care for them and cultivate an atmosphere of nonjudgment, love, exploration and safety is really fulfilling and exciting for me! I am really adventurous and outdoorsy and would much prefer to play games outside, go for a walk or got to the beach than be inside. However I love reading and nurturing that in other people so if a book is called for i'm all about that! I grew up playing sports so I love being athletic and having fun through being active as well. I grew up here in Long Island basically raised in the ocean and am a very confident swimmer. I am First Aid CPR certified.
