Hi, my name is Valerie and I am interested in part-time childcare work. I am a mom of 5 Vikings ( as my husband and I call them). My two oldest have moved out, and I have 2 in High School and 1 in Community College. I have been a stay-at-home mom for (most of) 23 yrs. When I realized that my kids would rather be with their friends I decided it was time to get out of the house. My neighbor agreed and offered me up as a nanny for friends of hers. I obtained my CPR certification and accepted a temporary Nanny position, part-time, for an infant. I so enjoyed my time with a little again! My position ended when circumstances changed and the family moved from the area. Since that first job, I’ve had a family in town for two days for work and hired me to care for their infant for a few days. Then two very lovely families who each only needed me part of the week became my primary jobs. One family had a toddler girl and the other a toddler boy. Both of those children will begin a school/daycare program this August, so I currently have days to fill. Pre-Husband and Vikings, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Science at Central Michigan University. Being a bit of a wanderer, I found myself in Chicago working at an Ad Agency! My family and I moved to Greensboro about 8yrs ago, and we enjoy having both mountains and Ocean available for our adventures. I enjoy getting outdoors daily, and perhaps it’s the Earth Science background, but I love taking the little ones outside and introducing them to the trees, flowers, birds, whatever we come across. Kids are such natural sponges, they soak it all in. Having the opportunity to smell or touch or hold something greatly improves their understanding, and I like to introduce words such as rough or smooth to help them be able to learn the difference and to describe what they feel.

I have been watching after children and pets for a good bit of my life, whether it was a sibling, family friend or even a neighbor. I enjoy watching children grow, learning who they are and watch as they tap into their personalities. I would say that I am great with kids! I have cared for children of all ages, from infants to even teenage kids. Over the summer of 2020, I worked at a local summer camp caring for children from the ages of 2-9. Since then I have worked with three families ages ranging from infant to 11 years. I also have had experience with children that have special needs since 2019, as we were given the opportunity to take them as elective courses in high school and participating in clubs in my college career. I have experience with pets as well so I am very comfortable with being around them, I do have a cat allergy but that does not keep me from loving them as well lol. As I stated, I am in college and am open to discussing my schedule with whomever is interested in hiring me but, that should not be an issue considering 80% of my classes are online!

Hi! As far as experience goes, i’ve been babysitting since I was 13. I have many many kids in my family and i’ve also watched many of my friends siblings as well as kids of my parents friends. On top of this, I also have experience with individuals that have intellectual disabilities. I worked in an assisted living home where I made meals, did laundry, took individuals on outings, cleaned, helped with showers and all of the above. I quickly realized how rewarding it is to help others and take care of the people that need my help, so I would like to continue that until I can finish school and make it into a career. i’m very flexible with hours and I have my own transportation.
