Hello! My name is Channing, and I love children. Why, may you ask? Children are truly precious people that haven’t lost their sense of play, innocence and magic. They help me see the tiniest and biggest details in everyday life and interactions that my adult-mind would otherwise pass by. They are some of my greatest teachers. My strengths in life, including compassion, patience, observation, learning and art, have lead me to become a preschool and music teacher. Currently, I’ve been working with 1.5-5 year old preschoolers for four years, as well as school-aged children 5-10 years old. I teach children music through guitar, violin and voice lessons with a focus on play-based learning (how else would children be interested?) Although I have taken a break from school, my goals are to advance my Associates towards a Bachelor’s in Early Learning Education and music. My dream is to start my own Read more school that teaches children everything they need to learn through nature, music, movement, and child-led interests and activities. I am certified in infant, child and adult CPR and first aid. I am STARS certified, and have an Associate’s of Art Degree with Early Childhood Education, Nutrition and Anthropology. I have gone through a lot of HIV & Bloodborne Pathogens training, and have always had negative Tuberculosis tests done (requirements for teaching.) I recently decided I wanted to become a babysitter, because I have a lot to offer children not only in the classroom, but at home as well; I believe children do best in school when they have an influence at home that helps them understand and process what they’re trying to learn in a familial and close relationship. What I have to offer children under my care is a relationship that is ultimately based off of respect for each individual child. Without respect, no child feels open to be itself and trust issues can occur. Security, safety, nurturance, love, play, having fun and firm, but gentle structure are all apart of my relationships with children. I am always looking for opportunities to teach children about life and themselves through positive reinforcement, whether it be emotional, mental, physical, environmental or social experiences. I believe I am a good influence for children, guiding them, rather than forcing them (unless safety is an issue!) and loving them, rather than judging them. Thank you for learning about me.
