early alzheimers

My wife is 58 and has early Alzheimer’s disease. Although she hasn’t worked for several years, she was previously a licensed nurse practitioner and raised our two children. As you can imagine, inviting someone new into her home brings a lot of understandable anxiety, but being alone is also frightening for her.

While we have neighbors who are aware of our situation, we can’t reliably depend on them for regular support. To start, we are looking for 3–4 hours of help, twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays). On other days, I am home for part of the day.

It’s very important that the caregiver is knowledgeable and comfortable working with someone with Alzheimer’s, including using a calm, respectful approach. We would appreciate ongoing feedback and simple care planning as we learn what works best together.

Support may include a mix of companionship and practical help — walking the dog (being comfortable with and tolerant of a dog is essential), light cleaning, organizing, or simply helping keep her engaged and in good spirits.

Above all, we’re looking for someone kind, patient, and dependable who can help create a sense of safety and continuity in her day.
