Hi! I'm Kayla and I am going to be a medical student at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in the fall of 2020 so I recently moved to Dothan, AL. I am an aspiring pediatrician, or, more specifically, a neonatologist so I absolutely love working with children! I graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South with a Bachelors of Science in Molecular Biology and Genetics and a double minor in Spanish and Chemistry. Throughout my time at Sewanee, I volunteered in a children's home for children with medical disabilities outside Lima, Peru. Here, I took care of upwards of 45 children aged 2 months to 18 years old on a daily basis - including everything from basic tasks such as helping them eat and bathe to more complicated tasks such as administering medicine and helping the non-mobile children get around. I also volunteered at Nemour's Children's Clinic in Read more my hometown of Jacksonville, FL, where I played arts and crafts and entertained the children as they waited for doctors appointments. I am certified in CPR and in Stopping the Bleed, which is a program in which we were trained on how to stop severe bleeding if we were ever in the position where we had to help with a traumatic incident. As a person, I'm super caring, thoughtful, and compassionate and I absolutely love being surrounded by children - hence why I chose to work in pediatrics for a career :P
