Meet Veronica

Hello Everybody, My name is Veronica Avelar. I began babysitting in 2015 for family, friends of the family, and other church members in need of help. For years my family has told me that I would make a great teacher, in the summer of 2017 I became just that and received my certification as a Swim Instructor and lifeguard for the City of Phoenix. During the summers I would be responsible for over 30 kids ranging from 3 to 16, there we would work on building their confidence and comfort in the water. Then we work on basic swim skills like holding on to the wall, climbing in and out of the pool, floating on their backs, and rolling from their backs to their stomachs. After my first summer at the pool, I started working at Ma'am's Daycare and Preschool as a teacher, creating lesson plans that targeted the developmental Read more milestones of each age group. The daycare offered care for newborns and children up to 12 years old, we had over 150 kids, the majority being under the age of 4, as teachers, we did not have a set classroom and were placed in whichever room needed the most help that day. Throughout High School, I worked as a Preschool teacher and began taking classes in Early Childhood Development and Early Childhood Education. Those classes sparked my interest in furthering my education and pursuing dual Degrees in Education and Psychology at Arizona State University. Currently, I am finishing my last semester at South Mountain Community College for an Associate in Communication. I need to have clear communication not only for myself but for the people I interact with daily. I'm a big believer that your quality of life is based on your ability to communicate effectively. Thankfully I've always been curious and was never afraid to ask questions, a trait that has never left me and something I nurture with all of my students. Whether that's visiting the libraries and parks around us, going outside and exploring what plants and animals live right outside your door, or going on field trips to the museums and zoos. I limit my usage of TV and phone time and try to do the same with the children I take care of, by playing games, doing activities, and exploring their interests and hobbies. I love reading and have started writing short stories for my younger siblings, it helps bring out the creativity within me, especially when thinking of lesson plans or coming up with activities and games. I'm very passionate about being kind to everyone, regardless of who they are or where they come from because you never know what anyone is truly going through. A small act of humanity could be everything for someone else.
