Once upon a time, I was god-mother to my brother & sister in-laws 3 children. When the eldest was 9 and the youngest was still in diapers (age 1 1/2), they would spend every other weekend with my husband and I for a year while the parents worked out their marital issues. I would pick them up from school on Friday afternoon and return them back to their parents late Sunday evening. My husband was heavily involved with sports and so depending upon the weekend tournament schedule, I was typically on my own with the kids, which was no problem. In 2012 while living and working in China, I became a governess to a 12 year old Chinese girl for an entire year. I commuted 30 minutes via metro 1 way and basically spend from 20 - 30 hours a week with her. My responsibilities and schedule varied every month. Read more In addition to teaching her English and ensuring that her homework was complete and accurate, I also taught her western style cooking, general housekeeping and how to play volleyball. I also attended the majority of her school performances and went with her to her violin lessons. We also went shopping and sightseeing on a regular basis. My next and most experience involved caring for children of 8 different Chinese families while on vacation for 15 days in America. Not only did I plan and coordinate the entire trip, but I was the live-in "nanny" for all 9 children for the entire 15 days. For the most part, breakfast and dinner were the only time when the parents had any real interaction with the kids. With the exception of 3 kids, the rest slept in a large living room on air mattresses while I slept in an adjacent area to keep an eye on them during the night. During the 15 days, we toured Sedona, Grand Canyon, Navajo Reservation and also spent 2 days at Universal Studios in Hollywood. It was such a marvelous experience that I decided upon my return to America that I would seek out a long-term position as a nanny or governess. Also, pets are no problem because I am a big animal lover. I use to have 3 dogs and a cat.
