My brother has severe and profound special needs and I have been his caregiver since the moment I was able to. Along with cerebral palsy, he tragically has 3-4 grand mal seizures a day and extremely aggressive and violent tantrums. It was a struggle for me as his younger brother to learn that these weren’t his intentions, and when I figured it out he bacame my best friend and I love him very very much. When I moved Los Angeles, I was a nanny for a wonderful family from Hong Kong for their son with cerebral palsy, paralyzed in a wheelchair with a feeding tube. I was hired to travel to over 50 countries in four years as their travel nanny and it was an absolute blast. After that, I became a behavior technician (ABA therapy), personal trainer, and private teacher for many families with special needs individuals for five Read more years. I helped with behavior, skill acquisition, physical training, private tutoring/teaching and creating enrichment activities. When the pandemic hit, I move back home to be my brother’s (39) caregiver and babysitter for my four younger cousins (1-11). I am a huge “gentle parenting” advocate and teacher. My parents were aggressive authoritarian parents to my brother and I, so when I learned about gentle parenting I immediately took it to heart. My experience with ABA therapy + gentle parenting has made my once very challenging relationship with my brother so much more enjoyable and comfortable for us both that I’m excited to share with anyone that’s willing to listen. It’s much more fulfilling and fun to gently and strategically inspire someone to grow than it is to force to them change with threats or punishments. I look forward to helping your family/home/life flow smoothly, teaching your kids to love learning, finding fulfillment in building skills, and and help them foster relationships through responsibility and manners.
