Hello! My name is Sophia Farooq and I'm currently in the process of getting my teaching credential and masters in education from Berkeley. I started working with children in high school, where I tutored third graders. However, this really expanded in college when I worked with my city's recreation department and oversaw 50 kids daily. I expanded this love for childcare and education by working my way up to the board of education member for a nonprofit sponsored by UCLA, my undergraduate institution. Here, I worked on workbooks for diverse grades and tutored many students on the side. For the last two years, I've been a second-grade after-school teacher. I work with around 20 students daily - creating lesson plans, tutoring, and watching over them as they play. Here, I also worked with our younger students as well - sharpening my ability to work with various age ranges. I also learned how to work with diverse age ranges and of course, the core skills needed to work with kids including patience, safety, CPR/first aid, and kindness.
