My experience as a nanny is more of child care, my first experience with caring for children is caring for my nieces and nephews growing up. I would help feed them, do their hair, get ready for school, get ready for bed, watch them play outside and help resolving their conflicts. They range from ages new born, toddlers, elementary school age and middle school age. I worked as an overnight bunk counselor for camp Phoenix for the past four summers (it is a summer camp for middle school kids in oakland to help bridge the academic gap, socioemotional learning and experience the outdoors) this was a 24 hour job where i supervised the kids got them up in the morning, resolved conflict, got to be silly with the youth and support their emotional needs if needed. I helped them with their homework, supervised their play time and gave them activities to do. Although I haven't been a nanny other helping with my nieces and nephews I love working kids and understand that they are their own person and that respect is a give and receive. I know the balance of being the adult figure and also having fun with them. I like to think of myself a no-nonsense nurturer. I also understand kids emotional needs and believe that they have every right to express how they feel sometimes they need help with expressing it healthily. to sum my love for working with kids up my favorite day at work was when I was able to support a kid having an emotional breakdown because they need to know they're supported.
