Hi, I'm Rachel! I'm 30, live in Long Beach, and have a background in childcare, teaching, tutoring, publishing, and creative writing. I attended Pomona College (class of 2015), then spent a year teaching English and History full-time up in the Bay Area, where I'm from. After moving back to Southern California, I nannied for a family in Los Angeles while applying to masters programs. The single dad had a six-year-old daughter and twelve-year-old son, both of whom I really enjoyed getting to know. I then earned my Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from California State University - Long Beach (class of 2019). Most recently, I worked in K-12 educational publishing while continuing to tutor—and spend time with my amazing one-year-old nephew! I currently tutor grades 1-5 at Long Beach Unified School District in literacy and math but am free in the evenings, all day Friday, and most weekends. Read more I truly love being around kids, especially in an individualized capacity: the school at which I taught had one-on-one classes, so I got a lot of experience getting to know my students as people, too, which really enriched the experience on both sides. Before that job I also tutored heavily during college (all ages, K-12) and was a camp counselor at a sleep-away soccer and outdoors camp, where I lived in a cabin alongside the group of 4th-6th grade girls I helped coach and generally looked after 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I babysat for individual families throughout high school, and my very first jobs and volunteering positions (all the way back in middle school) were at daycare centers, so I feel I have a strong background working with children, both in care-taking and academic positions. On that note, I would be very much able to combine the two roles and help with homework as part of my nannying responsibilities. I have a car, so am definitely mobile, and am also pretty good at cleaning and cooking, should those skills be required. (Also, I genuinely love grocery shopping.) As far as my personality, I'm always responsible and dedicated, but also have a gentle, sweet, and easygoing disposition. I've been on an achievement-oriented track my whole life, but I believe that human connection is the most meaningful aspect of existence. This view inspires me to work hardest at and feel most passionate about the relationships I forge with people, in both personal and professional situations. I hope you and your family will consider me for your childcare needs.
