Hello my name is Mariel! I've recently relocated from NYC where I was working two jobs; in the morning working as a public school substitute teacher and in the evenings as an Assistant Guest Services Manager in a midtown hotel. I was hoping to begin work as a teacher here in Los Angeles; however, the hiring process is different from NYC and I'm currently waiting for an interview with the Los Angeles Unified School District. In the meantime, I think nannying would be a good opportunity to work with children. I currently hold a bachelors degree in English, a masters degree in Childhood Education grades 1-6, and my NYS Teaching License (which is honored in California as well). Most of my experience with children has been within the public school system (so in essence I feel I'm capable of working with any child in all of North America after working Read more in NYC public schools!). My students loved me and my colleagues respected me. One of the principals actually refused to let me go to any other location and so he made me a permanent sub at his school! Most importantly though, I respect children. I respect their ideas, their feelings and their opinions. I can be stern when necessary without instilling fear. I'm very clear and direct. I'm also not one to remain idle. I LOVE learning and I like to share the joy of learning with kids by making it fun. For example during one of my science lessons we used Oreo cookies to learn the different phases of the moon (thanks to Pinterest). The kids loved it because they got to eat the frosting as the moon phased. I'm all about creativity and I strongly encourage it as well. Right now since I am fairly new to LA, my availability is very open. I know school just started last month so I'm assuming most work will be in the afternoon anyway, but regardless my availability is clear.
