I am a 26-year-old woman from New York City. I was somewhat of a tomboy growing up with an older brother, so I get along well with both boys and girls. I played plenty of sports as a kid and still love to stay active, but I also loved school. I graduated from college with honors and then moved out the west coast for a change of pace. I genuinely love kids. Though I understand you can't always have adult conversations with them, it makes me crazy when people speak to kids with the same tone they would a dog. Kids are far more intelligent and savvy than a lot of people give them credit! I find myself learning from them all the time. Most of baby sitting experience was for a family who I lived around the corner from in NYC. They now have four kids but a the Read more time at there were three kids, ages ranging from 3-11. They are the sweetest and kookiest little humans (now some young teenagers). My jobs for them included babysitting while their family was away for work, preparing simple meals, making sure they put their toys away, playing games, and general entertainment and tomfoolery. Juggling three kids at a time meant giving each one due attention and putting out minor fires when there were upsets in games, etc. Although, I also learned a lot from them. There's something about the genuine and unfiltered truth-bombs a child drops that can create some aha moments for me. In addition to working for that family, I also lived in South Africa for a year when I was in college and worked for a charity that taught rugby to kids of all ages. (I played rugby in college which isn't the most "lady-like" sport but it's pretty fun). That was quite an experience with kids who were really tricky to keep under control sometimes, however, it was extremely rewarding. It was nice to give kids who don't often get enough attention the time that they deserve. When I was a teenager I also used to do charity work at an orphanage in the BVI on an Island called Tortola. It was a pretty sweet deal, hanging on the beach at night and building playgrounds, painting rooms, and playing games with kids during the day. I'm hoping to work for a laid back family with a sense of humor and a lotta love!
