Early in life I became one of the primary caregivers to my younger cousin, Asher. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of three years old and it was difficult for my aunt (a single mother) to find care for him as it could sometimes be a challenge. I was there for Asher growing up. I babysat him after school, something that required a lot of communication with someone who wasn’t always comfortable with speaking. Through the years, these relentless interactions proved to be invaluable for both myself and to Asher. We both learned a lot from each other and Asher has taught me how rewarding it can be to know that you have helped a child to develop and overcome their own challenges. My care for Asher has translated to a lifetime of babysitting different children. Most recently I have been the nanny to a two year old Read more boy. This has taught me a lot of valuable skills as I have nurtured him from the age of 6 months to two years. My almost two years with him has taught me that babysitting is something that fulfills me. Good child care is the most important thing in the world. Child carers have the greatest responsibility to foster the safety, education, and healthy development of children. This is something I take very seriously.
