Hiya, I'm Jessie! I'm originally from the East Coast, and have lived in South Korea and Australia for a combined 7 years.I studied childhood development and language acquisition in undergrad, majoring in linguistics. I currently live in Highland Park (HLP), and LOVE our neighborhood! I have personal/unofficial experience with my nieces over the past 10 years, through their various stages of life. I virtually raised my oldest niece myself, alone, over the first 8 months of her life, (warming bottles, daytime and nighttime feedings, changing diapers, playing, and watching, etc.) Now that I'm back in the US, both come to visit me for a few weeks during the summer! My sister had a son last November, and until quite recently, I was his caregiver about 4 hours a day, Monday-Friday. That included: bottle-feeding, diaper-changing, playtime, outfit changes, and towards the end, pureeing his solid food to then feed to him. Read more :) As for professional/official contexts, I have wide and varied experience with kids. Much of my experience has been in English immersion, but *I* have so much fun just hanging out and playing with children! I love all ages, though particularly from newborn until ~12yo. They undergo the most growth then, and I love to feed their curiosity! ___ CHILDCARE - Most recently, I was a nanny (20~25 hrs/wk) to an affectionate 4 year old boy here in HLP (making lunch, reading books, playing together at the park and at home, driving him to his My Gym class, doing science experiments, etc) -January 2021 (pre-vaccine), I was a play friend to a hilarious 7 year old girl having to live through first grade online during the pandemic, also in HLP. All we did was play! -I was also an au pair/live-in English immersion tutor for 18 months to a silly only child (8-10yo) in Seoul, South Korea. Lots of playing, homework-helping, and meal prep when the parents weren't home. -Before that, I was an English play tutor several times a week to a giggly toddler (20-35mo) with a great, big belly laugh! We played in a naturalistic, gently structured setting so he could acquire English like a native speaker. - Of course, I have the common teenage experience of babysitting regularly for several families - snacks, homework, simple dinners, bedtime. ______ EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS - I was a kindergarten teacher in an English immersion school in Seoul (3-6yo). I taught every subject, especially reading and writing. I also served lunch! - I have served as a tutor of all subjects to countless children ages 12 and under.
