Hi families - My experience in childcare began in 1989 for the city of New York! I was assigned to care for children in the homes of chronically ill or disabled parents. These were temporary and very sensitive assignments. I enjoyed being able to provide a relief to parents who were already facing the challenge of being unable to care for their child in the way they would want to. This later led me to pursue a career as a full time nanny. I wanted to be a long term part of the care of their children as I did not get to do that prior. I cared for children from ages of newborn to school age. I started to work for families when the children were newborns. It was amazing to be allowed to do so and to see them grow up until it was time for school full Read more time. A lot of my experience prior to becoming a caregiver came from caring for babies for family and friends. I was experienced in sleep training babies, creating feeding schedules, engaging the babies in sensory activities, soothing techniques, identifying pain and discomfort, avoiding diaper rashes, skin allergies when washing clothes, swaddling, bathing newborns and umbilical cord care. As I later became a mother myself and worked with different families and children of different needs, I modified these techniques and applied them to all the different age groups. I began developing my own ways of developing sensory skills as the child grew older, engaging them at any stage so they were constantly absorbing an enriching environment. Finding ways to teach them basics that they could comprehend. Coordinating play dates while also involving parents so they knew everyone involved and around their children. Creating activities to help keep the children active. I became resourceful in finding local classes like music, art and sports classes to present to parents and children. As every family is different I learned various ways of meal prep including vegan meal preparation. My most recent family did not reside in one state permanently so I learned to find ways to make each city a home and not a huge change to baby. I became an expert at prepping luggage for baby to make sure we had all the essentials before going on the next trip. Most of all, my experience as a nanny has been nothing short of amazing. I appreciate and value every family who gave me the privilege of caring for their children and their children for trusting me. It is always bittersweet to move on to the next family
