In December of 2017 I lost my older sister. She passed away while bringing her beautiful little girl into the world, the baby made it, but my sister did not. That’s when life really acted, and god decided to test my strength as well as resilience. After the baby was born and released from the NICU my mother and I were left to care for her. I was facing so many things at once. work, school, grief, anger, and on top of that I now had to take care of a child, my niece, like my own. It was difficult, physically, emotionally, financially, and even spiritually. I was a mom without warning, a mom working and going to school while providing for a child on a part time income all without a warning. When your pregnant you get nine months to plan, but I did not get that. I didn’t Read more get to grief, cry or a break. I had to get up in the morning, go to work, go to school, and manage a part time income for my niece, an angel who didn’t ask to be brought into the world and who now was and depended on me to love, provide and protect her in every way. I was a mess, I felt alone, I was tired, I felt like a failure, so many times I wanted to give up, break down and hide but when a little human and your family is depending on you that’s not an option. I took it one day at a time, but I managed to get through to figuring it out. Just the fact that I was still in school, working, and that I managed to keep her alive and healthy was something I could not believe to have accomplished.
