Hello, I am mother of four, grandmother of two. For over 40 years, caring for and educating children has been my chosen profession. I spend much of my day viewing the world through the wonder of a child. It’s a great job! As a Mechanical Engineering PhD candidate at UC, Berkeley, I devoted several hundred hours as a caregiver for infants at UC, Berkeley Childcare and for all ages in University Village Babysitting Cooperative. I continue to tutor college students in advanced science and mathematics, but I find young children, especially toddlers and and twos, to be the better scientists. If for a single afternoon, I follow his lead through the park and his toy room, a toddler will guide me through an exploration of the whole of Newtonian mechanics. Follow motions, listen, and forego enunciation, and a toddler will demonstrate the acquisition of grammar. Further listen, and the indecipherable Read more words string together in whole sentences. Never a dull moment. Eventually, I stepped away from my PhD thesis and a professor appointment at CSU, Chico and went on to homeschool my own four children, babysitting and tutoring countless others who were also enrolled in Hearthstone Charter School, Butte County’s Home Education Program. As one of the Hearthstone’s founding board members, I designed and taught a broad spectrum of Pre-K through 12 core and enrichment curricula. I take delight in all children’s activities and can guide kids through art and cooking projects, practicing instruments, doing calculus homework, writing essays, making Waldorf paintings, and everything in between. With over 22 boxes of classic children’s literature in my basement to choose from, I would love to be the nanny who shows up with surprise books. I am happy to run around with kids in the park, take them on a nature hike, or get them moving indoors. I have danced professionally and facilitated all sorts of children’s movement. With 25 years experience juggling extracurriculars, playdates and sleepovers, I am well qualified and more than willing to navigate your kid’s activities.
