For three years, i was a day camp counselor for Camp of Champions USA. Parents living in the inner city were given the opportunity to drop their kids off at our summer day camp while they went to work. This was to help prevent the children from getting involved with gangs, and any other criminal activities. I had groups of ten to twenty kids that I would be in charge of for an average of eight hours a day. We would play games, sports, have snack and meal times, read together and go to pools during the summer months. It was a very high energy job that required a lot of commitment and attention to keep the children engaged and having fun. It was also very rewarding, when at the and of the summer camp my younger children cried when they realized they wouldn't see me until the following summer. Read more Nothing effects me more than that. I was a Sunday school leader for second and third graders at my church. I would regularly have a group of five to fifteen children that I would keep active for two hours. We would have stories, activities, question and answer times, sing songs and play games as a group. The parents all knew me by name, and trusted that their kids were safe and well taken care of when they dropped them off. They were sad to see me leave when I moved away from the area. Unprompted, most the children in my group wrote and decorated misspelled letters thanking me for being there small group leader. Over the years, I had been with them while they all grow up, I'll never throw those letters away.
